Crampton's Chesapeakes

New litter born Jan 7/12 - 8 males, and 4 females
Update: 1 male pup remains as of Feb 22nd

I have been involved with Chesapeakes since around 1974. My first retriever was a big black dog that my neighbor, who was losing his eye site gave me. This was a wonderful retriever that they used to take out to Manitoba every fall duck and goose hunting. We enjoyed Trigger for many years till we had to put him down. Trigger it turned out was a mixture of Chessy and Lab. When I read up on both breeds it was the Chessy history and traits I felt that I most admired in Trigger..

My first Chessy was a pup I got from Gary and Joan Brown of Stittsville, Ont. It was from a bitch they leased from Liz and Ned Lavoy of Conroy Kennels. Garjo's Copper King was the male pup I got from the Browns. A lot of fun was had with King at field trials and obedience trials. When he was about five years old King was stolen, and I quit being involved with Chessys till the last few years.

In 2008 after having retired I stopped near Clayton On. while a hunt test was going on, I decided that I would get another Chessy and start having fun at hunt tests. I searched a lot of websites and pedigrees till I decided to look at some pups at Skeetercreek kennel owned by Marion and Henry Goeree of Roblin Ont. I was impressed with them and their dogs and the amount of work that they had put into their dogs and bought a little female pup I named Skeetercreek Crampton's Jen. Henry informed me that I should look up Ross McLaughlin who lives about 15 minutes away from me and ask him to help me train Jen. Ross's wife Laurel helped me with basic obedience and Ross helped me to get Jen to being close to competing at a Senior Hunt level. Without their help I would not have achieved so much. I took Jen to The Training Hall, Carp, On.(Francis Holmes) where we were taught enough to get 3 firsts and a 2nd achieving Jen's CD., she's close to competing for her CDX title.

I decided to breed Jen again to AFC Hurricane's Express Courier owned by John Ackerman of Novelty Ohio because the last litter yeilded 8 healthy male pups. The reason for breeding the first time was to get a female out of Curry and Jen so hopefully this time around she will have some females. I also feel that this is a very strong breeding that I hope will strengthen the breed down the road.

THIS IS THE LAST BREEDING OF AFC HURRICANE'S EXPRESS COURIER AS THE LAST VIAL AND HALF WERE USED TO PERFORM THIS SURGICAL PROCEDURE

Dr.Rebecca Pentecost DVM of Animal Clinic Northview, North Ridgeville, Ohio ensured me the surgical insemination was successful. Breeding Date: 11/10/11, Ultrasound Date: 11/8/12, Due Date: 12/8/01

Although I do not hunt because of Jen's growing reputation as a good gun dog. I get lots of invitations to go out hunting from family and friends.

I know that to respect the health of the female you should at least skip a heat cycle before breeding and I ensure those concerned that Jen will not be bred again at least until well into 2013 and may never be bred again. I felt this was an opportunity that could not be passed up.

I feel that I have bred in a manner that will make the breed stronger and produce some wonderful Chessy pups that will make people extremely happy.
